Ipoh is a charming little town about a two-hour drive from Penang on the peninsular mainland. It was once the tin mining capital of the world in 1890. We visited the tin museum there in an old mansion.

There are little hip cafés with trees growing inside the building and a street market called Concubine Lane.

Of course, there is more charming street art there.

The food there was superb as well and we tried nasi lemak (chicken and rice with anchoives, peanuts and egg) and the kuih (cakes) called ondeh-ondeh and bahulu as well as the famous Ipoh white coffee and egg custards.

We enjoyed our weekend in Ipoh, staying at a natural hot springs resort and eating in a restaurant in a cave there.
